Our Methodology

OpenMatIndex helps people discover martial arts gyms by location and discipline. We started with a large directory, but a listing being present does not mean our team has visited the gym or independently verified every detail.

This page explains how the directory works, where information may come from, what our listings mean, and how to help us improve accuracy.

How gym information gets into the directory

Our initial directory was assembled from imported gym records and publicly available business information. Gym owners and authorized representatives can also submit new information and request updates. Listings may include a gym’s name, city, state, address, website, phone, disciplines, and other available details.

Some entries are more complete than others. We do not treat a missing phone number, amenity, price, class, or schedule as proof that the gym doesn’t offer it.

What is verified and what isn’t

Not every published record has been recently checked. Locations, instructors, affiliations, and contact details can change, and older records may contain mistakes. We are reviewing the underlying data and improving the way corrections and source dates are recorded.

A gym’s appearance in OpenMatIndex is not a recommendation, endorsement, or guarantee that its listed information is current. Before making a trip, check the gym’s official website or contact it directly about its address, schedule, pricing, visitor policy, and available training.

Important: We are checking the accuracy of gym records before making large groups of individual profiles available to search engines. We would rather publish fewer reliable profiles than thousands of outdated addresses.

How search and disciplines work

The main directory lets visitors search by gym name or city and filter by state and martial art. Discipline labels reflect the information associated with a record, not necessarily every class a gym currently teaches. A school may offer multiple disciplines, and training programs may change over time.

The default results are intended to help you browse locations, not rank the best gyms. We do not substitute search placement for an independent assessment of coaching quality or fit.

Claims, corrections, and new gyms

If you own or manage a listed gym, you can request to claim or correct its profile. New gyms can submit information for review through the same page. These requests are not published automatically, and we may ask for additional details to confirm a change.

Anyone who finds an inaccurate or outdated business listing can also email contact@openmatindex.com with the gym name, corrected detail, and a supporting official source when available.

Privacy and contact details

We aim to use business-facing contact information in directory listings. Contact details submitted through private forms are meant for reviewing and responding to requests, not for automatically appearing as public gym details. See our Privacy Policy for more.

Ongoing improvements

We are working toward clearer source records, dated verification, more complete schedules and visiting policies, better deduplication, and stronger gym-owner updates. Until those features are complete, we will state what the available data supports and make it easy to report an error.
